Ginger Tea

One of my favorite drinks,  hot or cold! It nourishes the body and soothes the soul.  Make batches by the gallon when you’re feeling peckish.

Ginger tea with lemon and honey is a revitalizing tea often used to help relieve cold and flu symptoms. All these ingredients have their own natural medicinal qualities and when they are combined, they create a calming and relaxing tea that can ease symptoms and boost your immune system.

Ingredients

Serves: 1-2

  • 1 Tbsp. fresh grated ginger
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 Tbsp. raw honey
  • ½ lemon, juiced (or lime)

Optional

  • cinnamon stick
  • Chamomile flowers
  • Echinacea
  • Fresh mint leaves
  • Pinch of cayenne pepper

Directions

Peel the ginger root with a peeler.

Grate the ginger with a grater. If you slice it, slice it thin and use more.

If you are using a teapot, add ginger in the teapot and pour boiling water in it. Let it steep for about 10 minutes.(Some prefer to boil ginger in water up to 20 minutes for a stronger tea.)

If using some of the optional ingredients, add during the steeping time (not while boiling).

Strain tea removing ginger and optional ingredients.

Add fresh lemon juice and honey if you like. Stir and enjoy!

If you want a cold tea, let your tea cool down, store it in the fridge and add ice cubes before serving.
